PERSONAL STATEMENT TUTORING
...with a highly competent tutor who has previously sat the examination you are preparing for in the same subject. You will receive high-quality, fully-tailored tutoring which will give you the opportunity to freely choose what topics or skills you would like to concentrate on.
Your tutor will become your mentor and will help you deepen your knowledge and will provide you with advice on how to make sure your knowledge and competencies are well reflected in your examinations. When applying you will be asked to specify your preference between two session types:
- Face-to-face tutoring will give you all the advantages of the physical presence of your tutor, such as a better interpersonal interaction. The location where the sessions will take place will be agreed at the time of application.
- Online tutoring allows for greater time-flexibility. While still providing you with the high quality and focused teaching that characterizes our services, online tutoring is a great resource when urgent help is needed.
...and exciting adventure of the IB Diploma Programme? We can make sure you have a ”rocking” start! The IBDP is a unique programme and as such it requires some key skills and prior knowledge that even the most capable students struggle with. The awareness of this led us to design a summer course which equips all our students with the essential tools to be able to start the academic year with confidence, maximising their potential. Our main focus is on developing crucial skills such as critical and analytical thinking, essay and lab report writing and research techniques. We also work to make sure you possess all the prior knowledge required and expand your subject-specific vocabulary. We are also able to tailor our support depending on your needs and on your previous academic background. Many of our tutors have attended different school systems before the IBDP (particularly Italian Licei), and will therefore be able to give you advice on how to ensure a smooth transition.
YEAR 12 REVISION COURSES:
With the summer term and mock exams approaching, Easter holidays are a key time for Year 12 IB students to look back at the work done during the year, fill in any gaps, consolidate their knowledge and practice their weaker areas. Our Spring Revision Courses are designed to support you through this critical time. We review the topics covered, making sure there are no syllabus gaps and focusing on the areas you find more challenging. We also ensure that you develop infallible exam skills which are essential in an exam setting. We understand that different students might have different requirements, such as focusing on exam skills or on knowledge consolidation. For this reason, we tailor our support depending on your requests. Feel free to explain your needs and expectations at the time of application, and we will do our best to match you to the right tutor and adapt our programmes accordingly.
YEAR 13 REVISION COURSE:
IB graduates often remember the weeks before their final exams as a stressful time, spent with revision notes, past papers, subject guides etc. Getting help in organising your revision and understanding the harder topics can really make a difference during this tough time! Our Revision Courses are designed to help you consolidate your knowledge, fill in any gaps and clarify any doubts that might arise. Furthermore, great emphasis is place on developing a flawless exam technique, which is often an obstacle for highly capable students preventing them from getting the top grades they deserve!
Our summer mid-IB revision courses are based on the awareness that your final year of the IB Diploma Programme is a crucial one, culminating with the dreaded final exams, which will open the door to the university world. Starting this “last ever” academic year confidently and with the appropriate preparation is essential in order to be able to make the most of it and perform at your best in the May examinations. We therefore offer effective and tailored tuition in the subjects of your choice, to ensure you possess strong foundations on which you can build new knowledge during the next academic year. We will help you revise the content covered in year 12 and train your exam techniques, that will become increasingly important as the year progresses.
GCSE years are crucial ones as they provide students with strong foundations to access higher education. Furthermore, the grades obtained will form part of your academic curriculum and support any future university or job application. Our GCSEs Revision Courses are a great opportunity to revise and consolidate your knowledge and to practise your exam techniques, under the guidance of an experienced, past GCSE student. We will help you improve your understanding of the harder topics and give you important tips on how to get full marks even in the “trickiest” questions. We will work to make sure you are confident and stress-free when you sit your examinations.
...a piece of coursework (known as ”Internal Assessment”) in each subject, as direct evidence of achievement. Internal Assessments generally train and assess your skills in researching, analysing and evaluating information, solving problems creatively, and presenting your work in a clear and structured manner. They are an important part of your learning process and can heavily contribute to your final grade. Due to the diversity in the IA requirements among the different subject groups, many students might feel a bit lost at times, and might need some guidance in planning and reviewing their IAs in an effective, but time-efficient manner. We therefore offer one-to-one tutoring sessions to help you design and plan your IA alongside draft-reviewing sessions. The latter involves giving you valuable advice on how to make sure you can tick all the boxes to get the top grades, while ensuring that the IA remains yours!
...of the IB Diploma Programme, consisting of a piece of independent research in one of the subjects studied.
As well as counting towards your final grade (3 core points are provided by a combination of your EE and TOK grades), this is a great opportunity for students to engage in the research of a topic of interest at a university-level. We understand how challenging it can be to explore your chosen topic in a clear and organised way whilst respecting all the necessary requirements to get the top grades. For this reason, we can offer our guidance in the brainstorming and planning stage, to help you formulate a focused research question, gather relevant data and judge its reliability. In a second stage, after you have completed your first draft, we will advise you on how to make your work a solid candidate for the very top grades!
...component of the IB Diploma Programme, aimed at stimulating reflection on knowledge itself, the ways of gaining it and its applications. Great part of the assessment consists of a 1600 word essay, in which students are required to discuss a claim about knowledge, supporting their arguments with their experience in the subjects studied. The high conceptuality and abstractness of such work are accompanied by the requirements for an organised formal presentation and solidly-supported arguments. This can seem overwhelming at first. For this reason, we are glad to offer you our experience to guide you through this difficult but mind-opening task, advising you on how to write an insightful and well-structured essay. We are also experts in reviewing your first drafts, to make sure your essay satisfies the requirements that will open the doors to the top grades!
